The REAL Reason Americans Love Pajama Onesies Explained...

Pajama onesies are having a moment…

Is what we could have said five years ago. Now, it looks like onesie adult pajamas are here to stay. Perfect for the bedroom, gifts, cold nights, and Halloween (right around the corner!), these festive jammies are beloved all over the world.

When the Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta wanted to celebrate his first career no-hitter, he showed up to the after-game press conference wearing mustache pajama onesies — like a boss. In fact, the whole Cubs team got in on the action, making headlines and going viral for a group photo showing the entire team dressed to the nines in adult pajama onesies. One major newspaper even asked, “is baseball in danger of becoming fun? Not to threaten the sanctity of the national pastime, but is there an argument that a happy team is a good team?”

We could wax poetic about onesie pajamas for adults all day, but instead, we want to ask a simple question: why have these silly PJs had such staying power? From cool teens to embarrassing dads, from pro athletes to overdressed Silverlake hipsters in animal onesie pajamas for adults, Americans love them.

The Enduring Popularity of Pajama Onesies Explained…
Many people have traced a straight line from the As-Seen-On-TV Snuggie to the footed pajamas phenomenon, but it’s not quite so simple. Others have pointed to the social media age, as people of all ages compete to outdo each other in shareable photos. There’s also the fact that Americans don’t get enough sleep; about four in 10 of us don’t get enough sleep at night.

However, the footed pajama isn’t the only fashion statement that has made a comeback in the past few years. In fact, American fashionistas have been embracing one-piece clothing of all types this decade. Bold jumpsuits have been a staple on red carpets and runways since approximately 2010, and chic one-piece jumpsuits are now a popular alternative to traditional formal evening gowns. And outside of Hollywood, women all over the country have been adding rompers and overalls back into rotation, too. You can find overalls showing up in denim sections all over the country, and one-piece bathing suits have posed a serious challenge to the ubiquitous bikini.

So why not one-pieces in the bedroom? After all, 61% of survey respondents say they don’t have more than one set of pajamas to choose from. Maybe that’s why men go two weeks before washing their pajamas, on average. If that seems like a long time, remember that women go 17 days on average!

If you’re looking to update your pajama wardrobe, if you’re looking for the most snuggly night’s sleep of your life, or if you’re just looking to have some silly fun, then it’s time to invest in the ultimate one-piece fashion statement: pajama onesies.
